#*# Drawn Together

REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS BEWARE.

I love this book, but I see that I only left a comment here when I read e-book, so I want to do it now when I have both e-book and paperback, yay.

This book is very clever in so many ways. First of all I adore how author blended anime feel in it and at the same time in my opinion managed to keep it more or less realistic. It starts with the cover, which I absolutely love, but actually for my friend who hates anime, romances, for her the cover was a turn off and almost scared her away from the book. Thank goodness I convinced her to read it. And then we have the title, which is also clever wordplay and then we have the story, where Yamane is an anime creator and in a sense the beginning of his romance with Rory is sort of a fairy tale, only fairy tale where prince is going to look for his princess is being twisted almost from the very beginning.

I love the story Z.A.Maxfield created and I love both Rory and Yamane, however I think she managed much more sophisticated character in Yamane than Rory and I guess that is why I loved and rooted for Yamane all the way through. Rory is, well a nice guy, a hero, somebody who has more going for him than we can see from the first sight, however Rory does not show many flaws except at the end. I am not saying that Rory is a Mary Sue or anything like that. Thank goodness she does NOT portray him as perfect. I am just saying that I loved how many contradictions and flaws and good qualities blended so well in Yamane's portrayal. Yamane, who is brave when he faces the real danger and who gets scared when he imagines danger, Yamane who does not believe in love due to traumatic experiences he had and still falls for Rory with all his heart. Yamane, who feels hurt and betrayed due to Rory's actions at the end (and yes, I think he had every right in the world to feel betrayed) and still does not betray Rory at the end (I see that author qualified it, I thought he did too, not that I would have hold it against Yamane).

I thought this book rocked in so many ways
